A good exercise to do before writing your resume is the 16 personalities website test. It is recommended that you start with a clear head. Use the first answer you gravitate to instead of what you think you should say. Be brutally honest with yourself. You will discover your strengths and weakness. You will end-up in the right place to be.
The Purpose of the Resume:
• It’s a snapshot of who you are, what you have done and what you’ve accomplished• It’s a sales tool
• A resume is to get you the job interview
What your Resume should include:
• Who - email address and name• What - what you do
• When - when you graduated and when you’ve accomplished these
• Where - where you graduated and worked
• How - showing how you made improvements to a job, showing quantitative results and how to contact you
Appropriate Language:
• Use action verbs (managed, improved)• Avoid pronouns
• Use a consistent tense
• No jargon or slang
• Do not add obvious points
Proofread:
• One single mistake will prevent you from moving forward• 61% of employers will dismiss a resume because of typos or blatant grammatical mistakes
Education:
• You want to showcase most recent and most importantAdditional Experience:
• Freelance work / smaller projects• School projects
• Case studies and spec work
• Volunteer work
• Internships, awards and recognition
TOP TIPS
• Reverse chronological order (most recent first)• State name of the company you worked at, how long you worked, then your accomplishments. You do not have to use full sentences for example “managed customers and front office”
• Remove personal information
• Stories sell, so add numbers, statistics, percentages, etc.
• Fuzzy key words and phrases should be avoided
